Which would be the best for using to trigger soft synths within Logic for example ?
Generally GM-800 has the most recent and advanced tracking. But, pitch to MIDI for things like controlling other synths still isn't perfect. You're better off creating or downloading sounds via Zenology Pro directory into the GM-800 and skipping the whole MIDI translation process all together. That's what GM-800 was/is primarily designed for. Thanks for watching, TJ
Great explanation! I have Osmose and thinking about some MPE compatible syths..to pair with it… How tricky is preparetion?..to sample to Gr1?..its is possible to do life?..i prefer lifesampling style..)…and jusyt now recodnised that GR1- is mpe..)
Pairing with MPE compatible synths is straightforward, most times depending on what you're working with. GR-1 does live granular and sampling, but it requires a class compliant audio interface to be used with it. Tasty Chips is now taking orders for the GR-MEGA. GR-MEGA has its own audio inputs. Thanks for watching, TJ
Is it possible to connect emeo to Yamaha Vl70m? Which has midi in and out ports? Which cable do I need ?
Yes, but you'll need a powered USB host to MIDI device between the two. In this video, I'm using Conductive Labs MRCC MIDI interface for that function when using synths that do not have a direct USB host port. See prior comments for details. Thanks for watching, TJ
Great comparison between the SY1000 and the GM-800. Thanks 👍
Thanks for watching. Cheers, TJ
I just want to say thank you for taking the time to explain the functions of Zenology Pro's editing tab in high detail. Very clear and concise, this helped a lot! Hope you're doing well my friend! 🥂
Thanks for watching. Cheers TJ
I'm sorry i've got vst's that sound more analogue than this. No low end, hollow mid range, no life. It's not just this utube video, the digital control side of things appears to affect the sound of a lot of modern synths.
To be honest, I didn't favor the Nina sound myself. Although, I've heard examples since this video was posted that have character. I only had about 30 minutes with it. I disagree the digital controls have any real effect on the quality of modern instruments vs vintage. Thanks for watching, TJ

I bought a sound key and it come at with a zenology sound bank. Idk how to install it tho. When I press write and install bank. It doesn’t let me click on any .fst files
Hi, Thanks for watching. Not sure what you mean by "sound key". Suggest you contact Roland support.
I TRIED TO CONNECT MY EMEO TO A YAMAHA MX49 SYNTHESIZER THROUGH THE USB OUT OF THE (DEVICE) TO USB IN TO THE (HOST) AND IT DIDN'T WORK
Hi, there's several possible things you can try to find the issue. Emeo is fairly power hungry. I'm not familiar with the MX49 USB power rating but that's something you should check. Also, a newer USB A to C type cable is required. The correct MIDI channels on both devices is also necessary. Thanks for watching ,TJ
@tjontheroad How are you connecting the Emeo to your Synthesizers, Are you using the USB-C to USB-A cord that comes with the Emeo ? If you are, do you plug the USB-A straight into the back of your Synthesizers USB-A (HOST) port ?
Depends on the synth. Both the Roland Fantom and Waldorf Quantum have USB type A host ports and Emeo is connected directly to them. For the other synths in the video, the Emeo is plugged into a Conductive Labs MRCC MIDI interface via USB. The MRCC channels the input throughout my studio via 5 pin DIN MIDI cable. In all cases, Emeo is connected via an USB type A to type C cable. You can purchase the same cable I used here on Amazon.com www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BSBNBHP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

Which one tracks a 6-string bass guitar the best? That is the clincher for me.
Sorry, I don't have 6 string bass to test myself. That said, the GM800 does have the latest tracking algorithm. hanks for watching, TJ
A demo of the Sequencer modifier would be appreciated
The step sequencer isn't the easiest thing to program on LVX itself. Lots of menu paging to get to all the steps. Better on the new editor. I haven't really messed with it too much because of this. Thanks for watching, TJ
Nice demo of a great synth!

you've had the Quantum MKII for several months now. any bugs, glitches, or quirks yet? no "white screen of death" or related issues?
I got the WSOD after the first original 2 hours of first turning it on. But not since I updated the firmware. No other issues I've noticed after 9 month and lots of sessions. Cheers, TJ
So would it work with Seaboard Rise?
It certainly should. Thanks for watching, TJ

I have a Willcox Midi bass with a SY-1000 and GR55 guitar synthesizer. I want to use 3rd party synth software like Impact Soundworks Shreddage or Native Instruments Komplete. Is this possible on these or the GM-800. I was told it was but I cant seem to get it to work with the Soft synths.
Yes, GM800 does pitch-to-MIDI. See page 19 in the parameter guide for settings. Thanks for watching, TJ
INSANE TONE loving the Gibson Modern Double Cut too hell yeah
Yeah, I miss that amp. It was a monster. Still have the MDC though. Never will sell that. Thanks for watching, TJ
OMG, I’ve watched 15 minutes already and beyond that intro (in which we have no Idea what instrument is creating what sound) there hasn’t been a single sound example yet. Just a ton of waffle about the number of oscillators and filters and mod sources, etc. Pretty much every high end synth (and quite a few lower end synths, e.g. Hydra) have that stuff too.
Hi, the video includes 12 sound samples of both synths. See the chapters to advance to that section. Cheers, TJ
Nice one! 🙂👍
Thank you. It's a cool design you've created. A welcome addition to my arsenal. Cheers, TJ
I love my mark 1 quantum. Took quite a while to get to grips with it, but now I find it very easy to program and most importantly I find the sounds sit really well in a mix (I have a lovely, wonky vintage analog poly which is great to play on its own, but really hard to use in a track). Wish it had a poly after touch keybed, but otherwise it’s almost perfect (which wasn’t quite my first impression!).
Quantum is a beast of a synth with a near endless rabbit hole to explore. Thanks for watching, TJ
did you notice any volume drop/tone loss when using the fx 8 in the tc 50's loop? cheers
Hi, There wasn't appreciable loss of tone and/or volume with FX8. Note, anything you put through almost any amp's fx loop will change the sound in some way. This is easily compensated for with EQ and level settings on the amp and/or the fx. Thanks for watching, TJ
@@tjontheroad thanks TJ
YW
can anybody just put it simply how the 2 units differ from each other??
The whole video is about how the SY-1000 and GM-800 differ from each other. It's easier to say how they're alike. That is, they're both guitar synths. That's about all they have in common. Thanks for watching, TJ
Your channel is highly underrated, thank you for all you are doing in regard to inform us about these amazing synths. You are an unsung hero.
Thanks for the kind words. Cheers, TJ

What makes the Iridium a clear winner for me is that, unlike the GR1, it can actually sample…. So I can play anything into it from my rig and get straight into messing with the sound. The lack of audio in on GR1 is a real oversight imo.
GR-1 does have the ability to sample input via any inexpensive class compliant audio interface. Although, it is mono only. Iridium does have stereo sampling. Thanks for watching, TJ
THANKS 😊

I'm wondering if anyone has updated to the new v172 version that is supposed to work with Silicon Macs. I (TRIED VERY HARD) to use the older version, but it was so buggy it made my head spin. I could hardly ever get it to work consistently. I chalked it up as a waste of money. Any new news before I spend time trying to get this new version working? Thanks!!!
Sorry, I can't help you. I'm still running the older version on an Intel Mac. Thanks for watching, TJ
All soundtower software is a waste of money. It's pure overpriced trash. I've been considering putting them out of business myself, but I know the payout isn't worth my time.
It was good enough for Dave Smith. If you've got something better, I'd love to review it. Thanks for watching, TJ
I found one that wasnt working but i sold it for parts. Just got a Lab Series L5 and its definitely scratching my solid state itch rn. Great tones
L5 is a great amp. Very different than the IC100 though. Check out me review of the L5 here; ua-cam.com/video/Sk7e0-tpuD0/v-deo.html Thanks for watching, TJ
I’m confused. You have the volume of VCO2 turned all the way down. I know that VCO2 is the master and VCO1 is the slave. I’m not understanding why you’re modulating VCO2. How is it impacting the sound when its volume is turned off in the mixer?
Hi, Thanks for watching. At what point in the video are you asking about please? TJ
On the first patch you demonstrated@@tjontheroad. You were showing all the various modulations but had the amplitude of VCO2 turned all the way down throughout but you were still modulating VCO2.
VCO2 parameter "FM 2 > 1" is set to feed into VCO1 slightly and is base tuned to a 5th (7 semitones) with a sub octave blended in. Modulating the pitch of VCO2 and amount of "FM 2 > 1" in VCO2 varies the effect of the frequency modulation (FM). This essentially turns PolyBrute into a 2 operator FM synth where VCO1 is the carrier and VCO2 is the modulator. VCO2 is turned down and not patched to the filters because doing so would mean you'd hear the changes in pitch (as modulated by the looping Mod Envelope). Instead, you hear only the changes in the FM modulated waveform that is coming from VCO1. Simple right? ;-)
on 9:13 its filter amp not filter attack. Great Review! CHerrs!
Yeah, I need to slow down before I talk lol. Thanks for watching, TJ
Thanks for this. Does either one have a proper arpeggiator? It’s the most frustrating thing about all of these synths.
The SY-1000 has a very good sequencer within the dynamic synth that can also be used as an arpeggiator. It requires a bit of programming however. Thanks for watching, TJ
Yes, we’ve all been hacking together arps using steps, LFOs, slicer etc but it’s nothing like a proper arpeggiator - especially if you sing. YMMV
You're right. It's better than nothing ;)
Excellent and very informative video!!!!

Cool video. It is possible to split with different sounds the keyboard on the Waldorf MK2 like a Workstation?
Yes, Quantum has 2 available layers. Thanks for watching, TJ

@@tjontheroad Do you still have your Polybrute mate? I'll always remember that self generative patch you did on it a while back. That sounded incredible, just constantly moving and evolving. I'd love to hear you recreate that patch on the Quantum mk11, that would be quite something.
Yep, still have and love PolyBrute. I've built some generative patches on Quantum too.
@@tjontheroad did you show them on a video my mate, I must have missed it.
No, not created enough of those type of patches for a video. I'm currently working on other things.
Thanks TJ!
Thanks for watching, TJ
Do you have a video showing how you have everything hooked up? Or could you please explain? Like, are you running into a computer via USB then 5pin out to your hardware synths? Or is it all done via MIDI over USB? Thanks!
The Emeo is plugged into a Conductive Labs MRCC MIDI interface via USB. The MRCC channels the input throughout my studio. Thanks for watching, TJ
@@tjontheroad Thank you! So do you have breath control 02, controlling different parameters on your hardware synths ? Your help is very appreciated, my good friend just bought an Emeo and we're trying to figure out how to trigger hardware synths.
The Boss expression pedal is also being used for Mod Wheel or Expression input. That is also channeled via the MRCC. This in replacement of Breath control.
@@tjontheroad So essentially we would map breath control to any parameter we want on a hardware synth? Can we just skip breath control and just trigger notes and velocity? Sorry for all the questions...MIDI wind is totally new to me. Thanks a million for your help so far!
Yes you need to program your synth for modulation of the desired parameter via breath. Breath control does not trigger notes. It only modulates the sound based on how you assign it in the synth. When playing the Emeo, three types of MIDI data are all sent to your synth. Note on/off, velocity, and continuous controller (breath). Note on/off triggers the sound. Velocity determines the initial sound loudness and/or other variations if assigned in the synth. Controller (breath) can be assigned within the synth to things like the filter cutoff, vibrato, post initial trigger loudness, etc. Note, every hardware and software synth is different. Some except breath control. Some don't.
